Dear HMC faculty,
We are planning on running a short round on the "Undergraduate Research Opportunities" site for positions available this fall. If you are looking to recruit students for your research, scholarship, or creative projects this term (either for academic credit or for pay) you will find information at the bottom of this email about the current round. But first we’d like to provide a quick update about the site.
As a reminder, we created the site to make it easier for students to locate and apply for research opportunities. For each of these past 3 years, over 25% of HMC students applied to do summer research on campus through the site. Most students who applied through the site submitted 1-3 applications per round. For summer hiring, there have been two chances to advertise positions: a Nov/Dec round and a Jan/Feb round. Interestingly, the Jan/Feb round in the Spring has about 3x as many applicants per project as the Nov/Dec round in the Fall, so if you’re able to wait to do your summer hiring until Spring, you might get a higher response rate.
