A number of HMC professors are advertising and recruiting for Fall 2021 research positions using the HMC Undergraduate Research Opportunities site. If you are interested in learning about these positions or applying to them, go to https://uro.hmc.edu to register, set up your profile, and apply to what looks exciting.
The deadline to apply for projects is Wednesday September 1st at 11:59pm PT.
Doing research for academic credit is a great way to get hands-on experience in a discipline you're passionate about. Please check out the FAQ https://uro.hmc.edu/faq and email me (milton@hmc.edu) if you are having difficulty with the site. Also note that these aren't the only summer research positions that are available at Mudd. Some faculty members have their own method of advertising, so if there is a faculty member you are interested in working with, you could always contact them directly to find if they have any available positions. And as a final note, first-year students cannot overload to do research for academic credit.
