'28 Myhre Research Fellowship in Chemistry

If you are a Mudd sophomore and a declared chemistry, chem/bio, or chem/climate major, you are eligible for the Myhre Research Fellowship in Chemistry. This fellowship provides research support to conduct research on campus with an HMC chemistry faculty member in the summer following the sophomore year, continuing through the junior academic year, and in the summer following the junior year. Summer stipends, academic-year wages, research expenses, and conference travel funds will be available.

To apply for the Myhre Fellowship, you should first apply for a summer research offer with an HMC chemistry faculty member [see the other URO posts in chemistry and apply to those positions, not to this post] and mention your interest in the Myhre Fellowship. If you are extended an HMC chemistry summer research offer (a prerequisite for consideration for the Fellowship) you will then be invited to prepare a one-page application consisting of:
  1. one paragraph describing your planned summer research project with your faculty mentor
  2. one paragraph describing how the fellowship would help you achieve your career goals
  3. a sentence or two describing whether anything (such as study abroad) would prevent you from performing research during summer 2026, fall 2026, spring 2027, or summer 2027

Finalists will be interviewed by a committee of chemistry faculty members who are not research mentors in the finalist pool. The new Myhre Research Fellow will be announced in April.

The Myhre Fellowship honors Philip C. Myhre, emeritus professor of chemistry, in recognition of his dedicated service and significant contributions to Harvey Mudd College and the chemistry department.

If you have questions about this opportunity, don't hesitate to ask us.
